KWPN 04-26-2006 Chestnut
Bastion was backed as a two year old and is showing exceptional promise as a dressage mount. He is the "Complete Package", a willing worker, three impressive gaits and great ground manners. We continue to be impressed with Bastion as we work with him this winter. He has the ability to pick himself up in front which is the basis for more advanced work. This combined with the length of stride and sense of rhythm is exactly what we would expect of his breeding. Although he will be only three years old in '08 Bastion should be suitable for an amateur who is a good training situation or a professional who wants a high potential young horse.
We have worked with a number of Sandreo offspring and all of them have been exceptionally easy to start and train. In Bastion we have the Sandro Hit and Flemmingh influence from Sandreo combined with the trainability and movement of the legendary Floristan. Bastion should finish 16.2 to 16.3 hands.
Bastion is a tall, leggy colt with a relaxed attitude and the look of a great dressage colt. His movement shows the great dressage blood on both sides of his pedigree.
Bastion is by the stallion Sandreo, the winner of the Pavo Cup in Holland making him the top 5 year old Dutch dressage stallion. Sandreo's sire is Sandro Hit, a World champion as a young stallion. Sandreo's dam is by Flemmingh who brings rideability to his offspring. Flemmingh's progeny include Crack C and Lingh.
Bastion's dam is the Westhpalen registered Florentina who is a daughter of Florestan. We imported Florentina as a weanling from Holland and she was very easy to start under saddle. Florentina shows many traits of her sire Florestan... a good mind combined with athletic ability to compete at the highest levels.
